According to the method, under conditions that pH is 11 and temperature is 100DEG C, 21% saturated sodium sulfite solution and sulphur powder are mixed according to the stoichiometric ratio of a chemical reaction, then the mixture is heated and keeps boiling slightly for 25 minutes, then heating is stopped so as to prepare the sodium thiosulfate solution. Through controlling on pH value of the solution and concentration of the sodium sulfite solution, the time spent on preparing the sodium thiosulfate is shortened to be about 25 minutes, the conversion rate of the sodium sulfite is improved, the prepared sodium thiosulfate has high purity, and the method is convenient to operate and has low cost.
