Problems solved by technology

On the downlink, a transmission from a base station may observe interference due to transmissions from neighboring base stations
On the uplink, transmissions from a UE may interfere with transmissions from other UEs communicating with neighbor base stations
This interference can degrade performance on both the downlink and uplink

Embodiment Construction

[0020] In a wireless network, a base station (BS) can transmit a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS). A user equipment (UE) can use synchronization signals for cell detection and acquisition. A typical search operation may involve first locating the PSS sequences sent by neighbor BSs, followed by SSS detection. Algorithms to generate detection of PSS and SSS from the BS are further described herein.

[0021] The techniques described herein may be used for various wireless communication networks such as CDMA, TDMA, FDMA, OFDMA, SC-FDMA, and others. The terms "network" and "system" are often used interchangeably. A CDMA network may implement a radio technology such as Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA), CDMA 2000, and so on. UTRA includes Wideband-CDMA (WCDMA) and other variants of CDMA. CDMA2000 covers IS-2000, IS-95 and IS-856 standards. A TDMA network can implement a radio technology such as Global System for Mobile Co...

Abstract

In a wireless network, a base station (BS) can transmit a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS). A user equipment (UE) can use synchronization signals for cell detection and acquisition. A typical search operation may involve first locating the PSS sequences sent by neighbor BSs, followed by SSS detection. Algorithms to generate detection of PSS and SSS from the BS are further described herein. A method for detecting a BS generally includes: sampling a received signal from a receiver antenna to obtain a sequence of samples; analyzing the sequence of samples to detect the PSS in the current field (HF); calculating based on the detected PSS A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) metric; combining the calculated SNR metric with an SNR metric from a previous HF; analyzing the combined SNR metric to obtain timing information; and using the timing information to analyze the sample sequence to detect SSS.
