The invention discloses a method for realizing network fault positioning in a network management system and a device thereof, wherein the method comprises the steps of: inquiring all warnings of a diagnosing object, performing warning relativity analysis and finding out a source warning; performing analysis for related items and positioning a node which causes the fault according to the type of the source warning. The device of the invention comprises the steps of: a source warning analyzing module which is used for inquiring warning of the diagnosing object and finding the source warning; and a fault reason searching module which is used for analyzing related items and positioning the node that causes the fault according to the type of the source warning. The method and the device of the invention can perform the following functions when network fault occurs: automatically positioning and settling a majority of common problems, improving field fault treatment capability, and reducing labor intensity of maintenance personnel.
