Abstract

A transfer case includes a first output shaft and a second output shaft selectively driven by an input shaft. A first gear set is driven by the input shaft to provide a first gear ratio and a second gear ratio to the first output shaft. The range actuator includes an axially moveable member operable to shift the first gear set between a first gear ratio and a second gear ratio. The actuation shaft is coupled to the axially movable member such that rotation of the actuation shaft translates the axially movable member. The second gear set is driven by the input shaft and drives the actuation shaft. The second gear set includes a control gear movable into meshing engagement and disengagement with the first gear and movable into meshing engagement and disengagement with the idler gear. When the control gear meshes with the first gear, the actuation shaft rotates in a first direction, and when the control gear meshes with the idler gear, the actuation shaft rotates in the opposite direction.
