The method comprises the steps of establishing a mapping relation between the object to be traced and a radio frequency identification tag; allocating at least one permitted zone in the data center for the object to be traced; scanning the radio frequency identification tag by a radio frequency identification tag reader in the data center so as to locate the radio frequency identification tag; and judging whether the radio frequency identification tag is in the at least one allocated permitted zone, if not, outputting a piece of alarming information. The method can improve the efficiency of a data central apparatus room in managing assets and personnel, and lower management cost. Furthermore, the invention also provides a device for tracing the object in the data center.
