Embodiment Construction

[0055] The methods, devices, and GUIs described herein provide visual and / or tactile feedback that makes the manipulation of user interface objects more effective and intuitive for the user. For example, in a system in which the click action of the touchpad is decoupled from the contact strength (for example, contact force, contact pressure, or its substitute) that needs to reach the activation threshold, the device can generate different tactile outputs for different activation events (for example, "Different clicks") (for example, to distinguish a click that achieves a specific result from a click that does not produce any results or achieves a different result from the specific result). In addition, tactile output can be generated in response to other events that are not related to the increased intensity of contact, such as when a user interface object moves to a specific position, boundary, or orientation, or when an event occurs at the device (e.g., "Stop").

Abstract

An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface and a display displays a user interface object on the display, detects a contact on the touch-sensitive surface, and detects a first movement of the contact across the touch-sensitive surface, the first movement corresponding to performing an operation on the user interface object, and, in response to detecting the first movement, the device performs the operation and generates a first tactile output on the touch-sensitive surface. The device also detects a second movement of the contact across the touch-sensitive surface, the second movement corresponding to reversing the operation on the user interface object, and in response to detecting the second movement, the device reverses the operation and generates a second tactile output on the touch-sensitive surface, where the second tactile output is different from the first tactile output.
