The display screen comprises an LED display matrix, a light filtering matrix, a control system and a housing; the LED display matrix is used for displaying images; the light filtering matrix is used for selectively filtering the images; the control system is used for controlling a driving IC and the light filtering matrix; and the housing is used for strengthening connection of structures of all parts and increasing the surface contrast ratio of the display screen. The working method of the low-cost and extremely-small-space LED display screen includes the steps that after the control system receives videos, the driving IC is controlled, and the LED display matrix is controlled to display a frame; meanwhile, the light filtering matrix is controlled through a synchronizing system; and light in different areas is periodically filtered. The LED display matrix and the light filtering matrix synchronously work, so that the aim of displaying the full frame is accordingly achieved. The overall light filtering matrix is composed of 2*2 light filtering units; one pixel of the LED display matrix is expanded into four pixels through the light filtering matrix, so that the pixels are multiplied; when oversized (such as larger-than-200-inch) displaying is carried out, a border and a joint crack are avoided, and the minimum space of the pixels is 0.4 mm, so that close-range viewing is allowed; devices needed by the display screen are greatly reduced, so that the cost is greatly reduced; and meanwhile, the effects of high gray level, high luminance and high contrast are achieved.
