Disclosed are an adaptive input current limitation charger and a control method thereof. The charger comprises a power converter and a current feedback loop. The power converter acquires input current from the external power supply and supplies output current for load as the charging current; the current feedback loop is used for comparing a first detection signal of the representation input current with a first current reference signal to produce a first error signal and providing the first error signal to the power converter so as to allow the power converter to adjust the input current according to the first error signal; the current feedback loop judges the overload state of the external power supply according to the input voltage of the power converter, when the external power supply overloads, the charger is in a current limited state, and the current feedback loop reduces the first current reference signal gradually until the external power supply recovers into the non-overloaded state. By the aid of the charger, the charging speed can be increased, and the overload of the external power supply can be avoided.
