Embodiment Construction

[0009] Such as figure 1 As shown in , a first embodiment of a signal receiver according to the invention comprises a radio frequency (RF) signal input 110, such as an F-connector. The RF reference 110 is connected through a high impedance summing node 119 to an RF signal processing block 120 comprising RF signal processing components such as filters, amplifiers and attenuators. The processed RF signal is input to the integrated circuit RF system 130 through one or more ASIC pins 131 . In integrated circuit system 130, the RF input signal is processed in mixer 132 to convert it to an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. The IF signal is input to the IF signal detector 133 and then to the IF signal processor 134 which generates control signals for the RF signal processing block 120 to adjust its parameters to improve the quality of the received RF signal. The mixer 132 mixes the RF signal with a signal generated by a tunable synthesizer 135, which acts as a local oscillator and...

Abstract

An RF signal receiver comprising an RF signal input (110) connected, via an RF signal path comprising RF signal processing components (120), to an integrated circuit system (130) for converting the RF signal to an IF signal using a mixer (132) having one input connected to output of the RF signal path with the RF signal processing components (120) and the other input to a local oscillator (LO) signal generated by a synthesizer (135), and an IF signal processor (134), wherein the integrated circuit system (130) further comprises a calibration controller (137) and a signal level adjustment circuit (136) configured to receive a reference signal from the synthesizer (135) and controllable by the calibration controller (137), wherein the output of the signal level adjustment circuit (136) is connected, as a reference RF signal, via a high impedance summing node (119) to the input of the RF signal path comprising RF signal processing components (120).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to calibrating RF paths in signal receivers, in particular television signal receivers. Background technique [0002] In a television signal receiver, a received RF signal provided from a terrestrial, cable or satellite source is first processed in the RF path including various RF signal processing components such as filters and amplifiers, and then down-converted to IF signal, which is then further processed. To provide accurate signal processing, the RF path should be calibrated to take into account the parametric spread of the RF components. Calibration is usually performed at the end of the device manufacturing process, where a reference signal source is connected to the RF signal input, and the RF signal path parameters are adjusted to follow the parameters of the received signal. This is problematic as it delays the manufacturing process and requires the use of reference signal sources which must be verified period...
