[0014] The apparatus and methods described herein can be used in process control systems to collect data related to instruments such as valves, for which it is otherwise impractical to obtain data using known methods. More specifically, the apparatus and methods described herein enable data acquisition from process control instruments and field devices by integrating sensors capable of wireless communication with the instruments and field devices. In certain examples described herein, one or more sensors may collect data and transmit data (eg, pressure data, temperature data, data indicating the status of valves, etc.) to a base station capable of storing the data and sending data to the DCS send data. The base station may be operatively coupled to field devices (eg, controllers, positioners, etc.), which may have been hardwired to the DCS, thereby enabling the base station to relay data collected by multiple sensors to the DCS. The data can then be accessed via the operator ...
