Network supporting roaming, sleeping terminals

Improved apparatus for a radio communication system having a multiplicity of mobile transceiver units selectively in communication with a plurality of base transceiver units which, in turn, communicate with one or more host computers for storage and manipulation of data collected by bar code scanners or other collection means associated with the mobile transceiver units. A network controller and an adapter which has a simulcast and sequential mode provide selective interface between host computers and base transceivers. A scheme for routing data through the communication system is also disclosed wherein the intermediate base stations are organized into an optimal spanning-tree network to control the routing of data to and from the RF terminals and the host computer efficiently and dynamically. Additionally, redundant network and communication protocol is disclosed wherein the network utilizes a polling communication protocol which, under heavy loaded conditions, requires that a roaming terminal wishing to initiate communication must first determine that the channel is truly clear by listing for an entire interpoll gap time. In a further embodiment, a criterion used by the roaming terminals for attaching to a given base station reduces conflicts in the overlapping RF regions of adjacent base stations.

High-Speed Molecular Analyzer System and Method

This invention relates to a device for the determination of the sequence of nucleic acids and other polymeric or chain type molecules. Specifically, the device analyzes a sample prepared by incorporating fluorescent dyes at the end of copies of varying lengths of the sample to be sequenced. The sample is then vaporized, charged and accelerated down an evacuated chamber. The individual molecules of the sample are accelerated to different velocities because of their different masses, which cause the molecules to be sorted by length as they travel down the evacuated chamber. Once sorted, the stream of molecules is illuminated causing the fluorescent dyes to emit light that is picked up by a detector. The output of the detector is then processed by a computer to yield of the sequence of the sample under analysis. The present invention improves over the prior art by using photo-detection of the individual molecules instead of measuring the time of flight to a detector that measure collisions. Unlike mass spectrometry, the method of the present invention does not require the extreme sensitivity required to differentiate between very small mass differences in large molecules. The present invention is therefore more robust than the prior art and well suited for extremely high throughput sequencing of large nucleic acid molecules.

Gasket for refrigerator and storage space sealing structure using the same

The present invention relates to a gasket for a refrigerator and a storage space sealing structure using the same. The present invention is used in a refrigerator which is designed so that a single storage space 48 is opened and closed by two doors 50 and 50′. Side surfaces of the doors 50 and 50′ facing each other are provided with side gaskets 70, which come into close contact with each other and thus prevent cold air from leaking out through between the doors 50 and 50′. Each of the gaskets 70 comprises a gasket main body 71, which is made of flexible material. Magnets 73 are provided only at portions of surfaces of the respective gasket main bodies 71 which come into close contact with each other. The other portion of each of the gasket main bodies 71 consists of an elastic portion 75 in which elastically deformation is smoothly performed. The gaskets 70 are mounted in gasket holders 61 provided in the installation spaces 58 of door brackets 56, which are installed on the side surfaces of the doors 50 and 50′ facing each other, respectively. The magnet 73 of the gasket 70 is provided at a portion biased toward an opposite side of the storage space 48. The elastic portions 75 are formed adjacent to the storage space 48. According to the present invention, there are advantages in that durability of the gasket is improved, operating noises producing when the door is opened and closed are eliminated, and leakage of cold air is minimized.

High-speed molecular analyzer system and method

This invention relates to a device, in one example embodiment, for the determination of the sequence of nucleic acids and other polymeric or chain type molecules. The device analyzes a sample prepared by incorporating fluorescent dyes at the end of copies of varying lengths of the sample to be sequenced. The sample is then vaporized, charged and accelerated in an evacuated chamber. The individual molecules of the sample are accelerated to different velocities because of their different masses, which cause, in one embodiment, the molecules to be sorted by length as they travel along the evacuated chamber. Once sorted, the stream of molecules is illuminated causing the fluorescent dyes to emit light that is picked up by a detector. The output of the detector is then processed by a computer to yield of the sequence of the sample under analysis. Such an embodiment improves over the art by using photo-detection of the individual molecules instead of measuring the time of flight to a detector that measures collisions. Unlike mass spectrometry, the method of such an embodiment does not require the extreme sensitivity required to differentiate between very small mass differences in large molecules. Such an embodiment is therefore more robust than the art and well suited for high throughput sequencing of, for example, various large nucleic acid molecules.
