The invention discloses an internal memory management method and a mobile terminal. The internal memory management method comprises the following steps: grouping non-system applications running in the background in a mobile terminal system to obtain more than one application group; and when the current use proportion of the internal memory in the mobile terminal exceeds a first preset threshold, or when the current use proportion of the internal memory of all application groups exceeds a second preset threshold, closing the non-system applications according to the application groups to release the internal memory. According to the internal memory management method disclosed by the invention, the non-system applications are grouped at first, and when the internal memory resources are insufficient, the non-system applications are closed based on the application groups, therefore the release speed of the internal memory resources is improved. In addition, the internal memory management is performed based on the application groups instead of based on a single non-system application, so that the internal memory occupied by the non-system applications can be managed more macroscopically, and thus the user experience is improved.
