Abstract

An internal combustion engine having an improved oil treatment system. The internal combustion engine may be a splash lubrication engine in which oil is flowed through an oil circulation circuit by a passive pump. In another aspect, a dipstick tube may be provided that includes a portion of the oil circulation circuit. In a further aspect, the internal combustion engine comprises one or more protuberances that automatically penetrate an oil treatment apparatus upon the oil treatment apparatus being mounted to the internal combustion engine, thereby fluidly coupling the oil treatment apparatus to the oil circulation circuit.

Description

[0001] Cross references to related patent applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 205,156, filed August 14, 2015, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] Splash lubricated engines are well known and widely used in small engines such as those used in lawn mowers, outboard marine operations, lawn equipment, generators, washing machines, snow blowers, and the like. In a splash lubricated engine, oil that collects in the lower part of the crankcase, such as on an oil pan, sump, or other reservoir, is thrown upward in the form of droplets (or fine mist) onto the engine's Lubrication is provided for various components such as valve trains, piston pins, cylinder walls and piston rings. In such a typical splash lubricated engine design, the ladle on the connecting rod bearing cap enters the oil pan located in the lower part of the crankcase, creating a splash...
