The assembly comprises a multi-sheet type locking clutch, a cover wheel, a turbine, a guide wheel, a pump wheel and an output shaft; the turbine, the guide wheel and the pump wheel form a torque converter working circulation cavity; a hydraulic reducer, a gear shifting clutch and a control system are further included; the hydraulic reducer is connected with the output shaft through a spline, the back end of the output shaft is connected with an external gearbox through the gear shifting clutch; and the control system is connected with the torque converter working circulation cavity, the hydraulic reducer and the multi-sheet type locking clutch and is used for controlling unlocking and locking of the multi-sheet type locking clutch, oil inlet and outlet of the torque converter working circulation cavity and working of the hydraulic reducer under the decelerating condition. By means of the hydraulic torque converter assembly, the clutch is protected, the output torque can be increased, and auxiliary braking can be provided for vehicles; and meanwhile, the price of the hydraulic torque converter assembly and the mechanical gearbox is far lower than that of an automatic gearbox, and the manufacturing cost is greatly reduced.
