Problems solved by technology

The imbalance between the excitation and inhibition of the central nervous system leads to epileptic seizures, which will not directly cause death, but may cause complications such as sleep apnea, causing suffocation of the patient
[0003] US Patent US8812098B2 discloses an implanted stimulator that can monitor and measure the probability of seizures in each sleep stage and perform deep brain stimulation to relieve epilepsy symptoms, but it cannot prevent sleep apnea
[0004] U.S. Patent US6961618B2 discloses that epileptic seizures can be monitored based on heart rate, and vagus nerve stimulation can be used to relieve epileptic symptoms, but sleep apnea, a complication of epilepsy, cannot be prevented

no. 1 example

[0019] Such as figure 1 As shown, an epileptic sleep apnea prevention system of the present invention includes a nerve electrical stimulator 101 and an upper airway muscle stimulator 102 .

[0020] The nerve electrical stimulator 101 is an implanted vagus nerve stimulation system (VNS) or an implanted deep brain stimulation system (DBS), which is used to stimulate the target nerve of the patient P so as to relieve epilepsy symptoms.

[0021] The upper airway muscle stimulator 102 is used to stimulate the upper airway muscles of the patient P to expand the upper airway, thereby preventing the occurrence of asphyxia.

[0022] The electrical nerve stimulator 101 includes a first electrode 201 , a first pulse generator 202 , a breathing parameter acquisition device 203 , a first processor 204 and a first communication module 205 .

[0023] The first electrode 201 is a vagus nerve stimulation electrode wound around the vagus nerve of the patient P or a deep brain stimulation elect...

no. 2 example

[0044]An epileptic sleep apnea prevention system, in addition to having the same electrical nerve stimulator 101 and upper airway muscle stimulator 102 as in the previous embodiment, it further includes an external early warning controller 103, which is used for Alert patients. The extracorporeal warning controller 103 can communicate wirelessly with the first communication module 205 of the neuroelectric stimulator 101 and the second communication module 305 of the upper airway muscle stimulator 102 through its built-in communication module.

[0045] In addition to the above-mentioned steps (1)-(6), the workflow of the epilepsy sleep apnea prevention system incorporating the external early warning controller 103 also includes the following steps:

[0046] (7) When the upper airway muscle stimulator 102 is awakened to perform upper airway muscle stimulation and lasts for a period of time T1a, the first processor 204 determines whether the sleep apnea situation has been relieve...

Abstract

The invention discloses a sleep apnea prevention system used during the epilepsy treatment process. The system comprises a pneumogastric nerve stimulator and an upper airway muscle stimulator, wherein the pneumogastric nerve stimulator comprises a first electrode, a first pulse generator, a respiration parameter collecting device, a first processor and a first communication module, and the first electrode winds the pneumogastric nerve; the upper airway muscle stimulator comprises a second pulse generator, a second processor, an awakening module, a second electrode and a second communication module, and the second electrode is positioned at the upper airway muscle. According to the system, through communication and control over the two implanted stimulators, the purpose of preventing apnea generated by a patient during sleep in the treatment process of epilepsy is achieved.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an implanted medical system, in particular to an epileptic sleep apnea prevention system. Background technique [0002] Epilepsy is a chronic disease in which the sudden abnormal discharge of brain neurons leads to transient brain dysfunction. The pathogenesis of epilepsy is very complicated. The imbalance between the excitation and inhibition of the central nervous system leads to epileptic seizures. Epileptic seizures are not directly fatal, but complications such as sleep apnea may occur, causing patients to suffocate. [0003] US Patent US8812098B2 discloses an implanted stimulator that can monitor and measure the probability of epileptic seizures in each sleep stage and perform deep brain stimulation to relieve epileptic symptoms, but it cannot prevent sleep apnea. [0004] US Patent US6961618B2 discloses that epileptic seizures can be monitored according to heart rate, and vagus nerve stimulation can be used to relieve e...
