The video image processing method comprises the steps of: acquiring a video image in a monitoring scene by a sending end; splitting the video image into a first image and a second image; calculating difference information between the second image and a pre-stored reference image; according to the difference information, determining a transmission content to send, wherein the transmission content comprises the first image and information used for determining the second image; receiving the transmission content by a receiving end, wherein the transmission content comprises the first image and the information used for determining the second image; according to the information used for determining the second image and the reference image synchronous with the sending end, determining the second image; and, according to the first image and the second image, generating an original video image. By means of the embodiment of the invention, the whole video image does not need to be transmitted; on the premise that correct transmission of the video image is ensured, the data size in the transmission process can be greatly reduced; and the transmission pressure of a communication network can be reduced.
