Embodiment Construction
[0034] Disclosed herein is an ultrasound therapy probe and a system containing the same. The probe is configured to generate ultrasonic therapeutic radiation which, when applied to the kidney stone, will exert an acoustic radiation force sufficient to produce ultrasonic propulsion. Unlike previous probes configured to generate ultrasonic propulsion, however, the probe of the present disclosure is designed to generate a relatively large (ie, wide and long) treatment area, efficiently generating ultrasonic propulsion. This large treatment area allows the probe to move multiple kidney stones (or fragments from lithotripsy) in parallel, thereby providing the user with the ability to remove several stones from the area simultaneously. This "wide focus" probe is incorporated in some embodiments into a single handheld unit with typical ultrasound imaging probes. By coordinating the ultrasound signals generated by both the therapy probe and the imaging probe, a user of the combinatio...
