Embodiment Construction

[0028] Now, some embodiments of the present invention will be introduced in detail, and these examples will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0029] figure 1 It is a schematic diagram of an example of a macro-assisted millimeter wave small cell in HetNet 100. HetNet 100 has an existing LTE HetNet DuCo architecture. HetNet 100 includes a macro base station (MeNB or MBS) serving the macro cell 110 and multiple millimeter wave small cell base stations (Secondary eNB, SeNB or SBS) serving small cells. The multiple millimeter wave small cell base stations include SBS1 and SBS2. The millimeter wave small cell is deployed under the coverage of the macro cell 110. The user equipment UE1 is initially located in the small cell 120 served by SBS1, and the UE2 is initially located in the small cell 130 served by SBS2. In a typical clustered or densely deployed millimeter wave small cell scenario, the millimeter wave small cell cluster or dense millimeter wave smal...

Abstract

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) band communication is a very promising technology for 5G small cells. In practice, such a new system will coexist with legacy or evolved microwave band systems, such as E-UTRAN LTE macro-cell cellular systems, for a long time to come. Considering the typical scenarios where a macro cell offers umbrella coverage for clusters of small cells, several control plane (C-plane) architectural choices of macro-assisted 5G mmWave systems from both UE and network's perspectives are evaluated. The proposed On-demand Reconfiguration C-Plane Architecture (ORCA) for Macro-assisted Millimeter Wave (mmWave) small cells is designed to meet 5G expectations of dense deployment of small cells and UEs and beamformed intermittent Gbps links.

Description

Technical field [0001] The embodiments of the present invention generally relate to wireless communication, and more specifically, to a control plane (C-plane) architecture that integrates a millimeter wave (mmWave) small cell and a microwave macro cell. Background technique [0002] It is expected that the upcoming next-generation "5G" millimeter wave small cell and microwave (for example, Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN)) macro cell coexist for a long time. The macro-assisted millimeter wave cellular system utilizes the fact that millimeter wave small cells and microwave macro cells can compensate each other well in terms of coverage area, link capacity, spectrum availability, and service stability. [0003] The millimeter wave band above 10GHz provides sufficient spectrum, which may be unlicensed or at least efficiently shared, in which the band can continuously span hundreds of megahertz or even gigahertz. In contrast, the well-known shortage of mic...
