The method comprises the following steps: running a test script, and logging into the CLI of equipment under test according to preset login information, wherein the login information includes an IP (Internet Protocol), a port, a user name and password information of the equipment under test; executing a test command in the test script; judging whether the execution time of the test command exceeds preset time or not; if not, outputting a verification command, and judging whether the output is correct or not; and if the output is correct, judging that testing passes. Through adoption of the automatic testing method and device, automatic testing of the CLIis finished by running the test script simulating a manual testing flow of the CLI, so that manual intervention is not required in the whole test process; testing can be performed repeatedly; the testing efficiency is increased; and the testing quality is enhanced. Moreover, testing can be executed simultaneously and continuously in plurality of software versions by means of one-time development,so that the coverage degree of testing is increased.
