A gamma correction system, and a correction method for the same. The method comprises: acquiring color coordinates of an R sub-pixel, a G sub-pixel, and a B sub-pixel in a pixel unit, and a brightness value thereof (S1); selecting n gray-scale values, calculating n first brightness values corresponding to the n gray-scale values for each of the sub-pixels, and using the n gray-scale values as horizontal coordinate values and the corresponding n first brightness values as vertical coordinate values to obtain n fitting points (S2); performing a fitting operation on the n fitting points to obtain a fitting curve for each of the sub-pixels (S3); and using a fitting curve having a total difference between n second brightness values and the n first brightness values corresponding to the sub-pixel that is less than a threshold value as the fitting curve of the sub-pixel, and storing the same in a memory device (S5). The brightness corresponding to a given gray-scale value of each sub-pixel can be obtained according to the fitting curve, such that gray-scale values are not required to be stored, thereby saving hardware resources. The entire correction process only requires fitting of n fitting points, thereby greatly reducing the time needed for gamma correction.
