The method comprises the following steps of (S1) carrying out period length scanning calculation on the coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube to obtain dispersion characteristic curves thereof; (S2) gradually increasing coupling slot opening angles of the coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube and carrying out period length scanning calculation on the coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube under different coupling slot opening angles separately; (S3) obtaining coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube structures with the same phase speed under different coupling slot opening angles and period lengths; and (S4) carrying out beam-wave interaction calculation on the coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube structures obtained in the step (S3) separately and taking the structure with the minimum group delay under the coupling slot opening angle and the period length as the final structure of the coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube under the condition of meeting the output power requirements. According to the suppression method, the synchronization degree of electron beams and waves in the whole band is improved through reasonably controlling the coupling slot opening angles and the period lengths, so that suppression of the group delay is effectively achieved and the group delay requirements of a travelingwave tube amplifier on the coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube are met.
