Abstract

A method for accessing a shared communication channel by a communication device (200), wherein contention-based access to the communication channel is used by a plurality of devices having traffic of different priorities. The communication device is configured to transmit data streams with different transmission priorities via the shared communication channel, wherein a first data type stream has a higher transmission priority than a second data type stream. For each type of traffic, a different set of parameters is specified and applied during contention access (clear channel assessment), which is related to the contention window (minimum and maximum value), which allows to determine the waiting time before accessing the shared medium and the final grant The duration of the transmission time. The method identifies various adjustments to these parameters. In principle, the time range of services of the first data type is lower than the time range of services of the second data type. In the event that a second data transmission takes place but the packet is only partially transmitted, the maximum value for the corresponding time range is reduced. In other scenarios, the maximum time range value is increased in case of shared medium congestion.
