Problems solved by technology

In addition, it is generally accepted that attention-inducing stimuli and attention-demanding tasks also elicit increased EDA responses
Despite improvements in measurement equipment since the discovery of the galvanic skin phenomenon more than 100 years ago, much research in this field has been limited to observational measurements performed over short periods of time in laboratory settings or in artificial clinical settings

Embodiment Construction

[0026] figure 1 A schematic diagram of a first embodiment of a wearable device 10 for determining electrodermal activity of a subject 1 according to the invention is shown. The wearable device 10 includes: a light source 11 for emitting light including infrared light in a wavelength range between 750nm and 950nm into the tissue of the subject 1; receiving at least part of the emitted light after the interaction with the tissue; and an evaluation unit 13 for determining electrodermal activity from the received light. A support 14, such as a housing or housing, is provided for carrying the light source 11, the light sensor 12 and the evaluation unit 13, wherein the light source and the light sensor are arranged at a predetermined distance from each other.

[0027] The light source 11 may comprise one (or more) LED(s), eg infrared LED(s), which emit light into a skin portion of the subject 1 , eg at the subject's wrist or face. The emitted light interacts with the tissue of the...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a wearable device for determining electro- dermal activity of a subject (1). The device (10) comprises a light source (11) for emitting light including infrared lightin the wavelength range between 750 and 950 nm into tissue of the subject, a light sensor (12) for receiving at least part of the emitted light after an interaction of the emitted light with the tissue, an evaluation unit (13) for determining the electro-dermal activity from the received light, and a support (14) for carrying the light source (11), the light sensor (12) and the evaluation unit (13), wherein the light source and the light sensor are arranged at a predetermined distance from each other.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a wearable device and a corresponding method for determining electrodermal activity of a subject. Background technique [0002] Typically, regulation of the physiological state of arousal is achieved through a balance of activity within the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). While the parasympathetic nervous system promotes the recovery and conservation of body energy, the sympathetic nervous system stimulates increased metabolic output in response to external challenges. In doing so, increased sympathetic activity (sympathetic nerve excitation) raises heart rate, blood pressure, and sweating, as well as redirects blood from intestinal reservoirs to skeletal muscles, lungs, heart, and brain in preparation for locomotor action. Sympathetic postganglionic fibers, including non-myelinated C-type fibers, surround eccrine sweat glands and their activity regulates sweat secretion....
