Problems solved by technology

This presents challenges in multicast communications to devices that may not receive communications at the same time
In addition, in LTE or other cellular technologies, devices can utilize DRX mode to save radio resources, wherein a device in DRX mode can periodically turn on and off receiver resources, which is different from devices with different DRX cycle parameters. The challenge is similarly presented in broadcast communication

[0031] Various aspects are now described with reference to the figures. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of one or more aspects. It may be evident, however, that these aspects may be practiced without these specific details.

[0032]Described herein are various aspects related to providing multicast signaling and / or media data in techniques where devices may not be configured to receive communications during the same time period. For example, the same cellular radio access technology (RAT) may utilize a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode in which a device turns on radio resources for a period of time (referred to herein as DRX on or on-duration) and in another period of time. Receiver resources are turned off during a period of time (referred to herein as DRX off or off-duration) to save power. In one example, a device may be configured with a DRX cycle, which may d...

Abstract

Aspects described herein relate to establishing communications using multicast in a wireless network. A connection of a User Equipment, UE, with an access point can be established using a cellular radio access technology. An internet protocol request for multicast communications can be transmitted to the access point over the connection, preferably by means of the Internet Group Management Protocol, IGMP. Multicast data can be received from the access point over resources corresponding to over-the-air multicast communications based on the internet protocol request. Assigned radio resources allow the UE to function in discontinuous reception, DRX mode. Mechanisms for ACK / NAK and CQI transmission are also described.

Description

[0001] Claim Priority Pursuant to 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application claims Provisional Application No. 62 / 276,664, filed January 8, 2016, entitled "TECHNIQUES FOR MULTICAST WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS," and The priority of US Patent Application No. 15 / 398,891, which is assigned to the assignee of the present application, is expressly incorporated herein by reference for all purposes. Background technique [0003] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, data, and so on. These systems may be multiple-access systems capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (eg, bandwidth and transmit power). Examples of such multiple-access systems include Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) systems, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) systems, 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, and Orthogonal Frequenc...
