The method comprises the steps of acquiring surplus energy of the terminal at a current moment, determining a duration required for completing this charge by adopting a rapid charging mode as a first charging duration according to the surplus energy, determining a duration required for completing this charge by adopting an ordinary charging mode as a second charging duration, determining an available charging duration at the current moment according to terminal historical use records of the user, andselecting a charging mode to charge the terminal according to the first charging duration, the second charging duration and the available charging duration. According to the method provided by the embodiments of the invention, the automatic selecting and switching of a charging mode of the terminal are achieved, the operating steps of manually configuring and selecting the charging mode by a terminal user are reduced, the user experience is improved, and meanwhile, a battery of the terminal is protected to certain extent through selecting an appropriate charging mode.
