Embodiment Construction

[0017] This document describes an integrated decision-making and motion-planning solution for automatically performing lane-changing maneuvers involving vehicles. The decision-making component can determine the behavior pattern to be followed by the autonomous or automated vehicle, and the motion planning component can determine the actual lane-changing trajectory used to perform the lane-changing maneuver. These components can operate together to efficiently achieve a successful change from the current lane to the target lane (eg, generate a collision-free trajectory that respects the vehicle's dynamics and passenger comfort constraints). For example, the decision making component can determine constraints and / or goals that the motion planning module can use to narrow or focus its search for successful lane change trajectories. Such efficiencies may enable the vehicle control system as a whole to consider a wider range or class of possible lane changing motions than would oth...

Abstract

Systems and methods for automated control of vehicle lane change maneuvers are disclosed. Some implementations may include detecting, based on data from a sensor in the first vehicle, one or more other vehicles that are moving in a target lane of the road. Some implementations may include determining, based on the kinematic state of the vehicle and a prediction of motion of the one or more other vehicles in the target lane, estimates of headway in relation to at least one of the one or more other vehicles in the target lane. Some implementations may include determining, based at least in parton the estimates of headway, overtake decisions for the one or more other vehicles traveling in the target lane. Some implementations may include determining a motion plan that will transition the first vehicle from the current lane to the target lane based the overtake decisions.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application 62 / 397,461, filed September 21, 2016, entitled "Vehicle Control System," which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] This document generally deals with the automated control of vehicles. Background technique [0004] Automated vehicle control systems are in constant development and will take on more and more of the vehicle maneuvering work. The ability of automated vehicle control systems to access and integrate vast amounts of information that is not practically available to human operators, such as data from various sensors or communications received from other vehicles or traffic control systems, fundamentally changes the vehicle control problem and An opportunity is provided to automatically steer vehicles in a much safer and more efficient manner. However, the real world is highly complex, and it is difficu...
