The method includes steps: generating a visual signal-to-noise optotype with directivity, wherein the visual signal-to-noise optotype consists of a background portion and an icon portion, the icon portion is an icon which is overlaid on the background portion and capable of judgingthe direction, and noise disturbance of image information can be controlled by adjustment of transparency of the icon capable of judging the direction; after a user judges the direction of the optotype through direction keys of a computer keyboard, storing a judgment result, re-generating a new progressive signal-to-noise ratio image according to the judgment result, and repeating so until the user fails to judge the direction of the optotype, so that the signal-to-noise ratio of the last visual signal-to-noise optotype corresponds to a minimum signal-to-noise ratio of the tested eye. The system and the method have advantages of convenience in operation, low cost, easiness in popularization and direct examination results and are beneficial to provide basis for doctors to perform visual diagnosis and make visual function training schemes.
