Problems solved by technology

Decreased intravascular blood pressure may lead to hypotension and may activate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, which may lead to increased blood pressure or worsening renal function
Ultimately, this cycle leads to diuretic resistance and worsening renal function in almost 30% of admitted patients

Abstract

A variety of different systems and methods are provided for reducing the pressure at the outflow of a duct such as a thoracic or lymphatic duct, etc. A catheter system may include: a catheter shaft configured to be at least partially implantable within a vein of a patient; a flexible membrane attached to the catheter shaft, the flexible membrane being a collapsible tubular member , the collapsible tubular member has a lumen extending therethrough; and a single selectively expandable restriction member between the proximal end of the flexible membrane and the distal end of the flexible membrane Formed on a portion of the flexible membrane approximately midway therebetween, the restricting member is configured to control the size of the lumen to direct a controlled volume of fluid from an upstream side of the restricting member to a downstream side of the restricting member.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 466,191, filed March 2, 2017, the contents of which are incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for reducing pressure at an effluent of a pipeline. Background technique [0004] The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system that works with the arterial and venous systems. The main function of the lymphatic system is to drain excess interstitial fluid back into the venous system at two major locations, the thoracic duct and the lymphatic ducts, which drain into the left and right subclavian veins, respectively. [0005] Under normal circulatory conditions in the arterial and venous systems, interstitial fluid volume balance is maintained and lymph fluid is cleared through the lymphatic system. In pathological conditions such as acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema a...
