Embodiment Construction

[0053] Restless legs syndrome (RLS) or periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD) can be treated using high frequency (HF) electrical stimulation. This may include selecting or receiving subjects presenting RLS or PLMD. At least one electrical stimulation electrode may be located at a location associated with at least one of the sural, peroneal, or femoral nerves, or at least one branch of the sural, peroneal, or femoral nerves. HF electrical stimulation may be delivered to the subject, which may include delivering subsensory, subthreshold, AC electrical stimulation to the site at a frequency in excess of 500 Hz and less than 15,000 Hz to help reduce or relieve one of the symptoms associated with RLS or PLMD or more symptoms. A charge-balanced controlled current HF electrical stimulation waveform can be used.

[0054] Pathophysiology of RLS

[0055] In certain instances, RLS medical treatment may include dopamine supplements (eg, levodopa), dopamine agonists (eg, ropinirole, ...

Abstract

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) or Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) can be treated using high frequency (HF) electrostimulation. This can include selecting or receiving a subject presenting with RLSor PLMD. At least one electrostimulation electrode can be located at a location associated with at least one of, or at least one branch of, a sural nerve, a peroneal nerve, or a femoral nerve. HF electrostimulation can be delivered to the subject, which can include delivering subsensory, subthreshold, AC electrostimulation at a frequency that exceeds 500 Hz and is less than 15,000 Hz to the location to help reduce or alleviate the one or more symptoms associated with RLS or PLMD. A charge-balanced controlled-current HF electrostimulation waveform can be used.

Description

[0001] priority statement [0002] This patent application claims the benefit of priority to the following patents: (1) Shriram Raghunathan's U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 442,798, filed January 5, 2017, entitled "METHODS TO TREAT SYMPTOMS FROM OVERACTIVITY OF NERVES" and (2) Shriram Raghunathan, U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 552,690, filed August 31, 2017, entitled "SYSTEMS METHODS AND DEVICES TO MODULATE NERVE ACTIVITY TO TREATNEUROLOGICAL DISORDER AND IMPROVE SLEEP QUALITY"; Each of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] This document relates generally, but not by way of limitation, to medical diagnostic and therapeutic devices and methods, and more particularly, to restless legs syndrome (RLS) or neurological treatment of hyperactivity. Background technique [0004] Certain neurological disorders with bothersome symptoms can be attributed to overactivity of sensory or other peripheral nerve fibers, w...
