Problems solved by technology

[0006] Occasionally, an incomplete connection between connectors or between a connector and an adapter is formed that may not be detectable by the user
Additionally, fatigue or other stresses induced through use of the connectors may weaken the mechanical connection between the connectors or between the connector and the adapter, resulting in disconnected or inadequate connections.
This incomplete or broken connection results in reduced system performance or even complete system failure

Abstract

A connector assembly comprising an adapter (2250), a housing device (2211), a ferrule assembly and a sensor (2230). The housing device is received by the adapter and has a bore, a front end and a rear end opposite the front end. The ferrule (2117B) of the ferrule assembly is located within the bore of the housing device and has a mating end extending beyond the front end of the housing device. The sensor is mounted on the rear end of the housing device, the rear end of the ferrule assembly, or on the adapter facing and spaced from the housing device or the ferrule assembly. The sensor is configured to detect the force exerted by the housing arrangement or the ferrule assembly, respectively. The electrical characteristic of the sensor changes to indicate that a predetermined force has been applied by the housing means or the ferrule assembly, respectively.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application is a continuation of US Patent Application No. 15 / 863,331, filed January 5, 2018, which claims US Provisional Patent Application Nos. 62 / 473,872, filed March 20, 2017, and February 1, 2017 The benefit of filed US Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 453,449, the contents of all of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present technology relates generally to optical and electrical connectors, and more particularly to the detection of connections of such devices. Background technique [0004] Optical fibers and wires are optically or electrically connected to respective opposing fibers and wires to transmit signals between the respective connected fibers and wires, which may occur in the operation of data storage and transmission devices. The respective opposing optical fibers and wires are held by connectors at their ends. In order to establish the connection between...
