The invention relates to a system and method for error detection and correction, wherein the method is used for detecting and correcting transient errors. The method comprises the steps of: (110) acquiring image data from a camera system; (120) processing the image data using a first image signal processor and a second image signal processor to generate first output data and second output data; (130) generating at least one statistical model based on the at least first output data and the second output data, wherein the statistical model is used to (140) identify whether there is an error in the first output data; (150) generating correction value for a portion of the image data is generated, where the correction value is an expected value based on the statistical model and is used to generate (160) updated output data; (170) outputting the updated output data to an output device.
