[0017] As referred to herein, a multi-modal route between a certain departure location (or "source") and a certain destination includes at least two road segments that a user can traverse using different modes of transportation . Some modes of transportation are public. Examples of public transportation include subways, buses, trains, trams or trolleys, ferries, and the like. Other modes of transportation (such as cars or bicycles) are private. Some of the ride-sharing offerings offered today may operate similarly to providers of traditional taxis and services where individuals or small groups request rides together, as well as ride-sharing services (i.e. rides shared between strangers to reduce costs). In either case, transportation provided by a ride-sharing service is referred to herein as a private mode of transportation.
