Problems solved by technology

[0008] The appearance and color of Candida auris colonies in cultures may aid in species identification but should not be used as the sole means of identifying Candida auris because the canal cannot be sham without the use of other methods. Trichotomyces are distinguished from other, more common Candida species

[0089] The following examples, tables and figures are provided to aid in the understanding of the subject matter, the true scope of which is set forth in the appended claims. It should be understood that modifications may be made in the procedures set forth without departing from the spirit of the invention.

[0091] The targets chosen for CA were the result of a comprehensive search of public sequence databases as well as a literature search for CA targets that might be differentiated from their closest relatives, Candida simologii and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Multiple targets from public sequence databases were analyzed during the target selection process at the design stage, but all targets showed cross-reactivity with Candida shimoronii and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Sequences in public databases are complicated by "large" sequence data from multi-copy targets. BLAST analysis of the selected oligonucleotides indicated that the only significant cross-reactivity would be with Candida himoliu.

Abstract

Methods for the rapid detection of the presence or absence of Candida auris (CA) in a biological or non-biological sample are described. The methods can include performing an amplifying step, a hybridizing step, and a detecting step. Furthermore, primers, probes targeting the CA 5.8s / ITS2 rRNA gene, along with kits are provided that are designed for the detection of CA.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of molecular diagnostics, and more particularly to the detection of Candida auris. Background technique [0002] Candida auris (C. auris, CA) is an emerging fungus that poses a serious threat to global health. Although C. auris was first identified in Japan in 2009, a retrospective survey of collections of Candida strains found the earliest known strain of C. auris dating back to 1996 in Korea. Although Candida auris was not recognized until 2009, it has emerged rapidly and has been reported in more than 20 countries, including the United States. Medical institutions in several countries have reported that Candida auris has caused serious illness in hospitalized patients. In some patients, the yeast can enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body, causing a serious, invasive infection. [0003] Candida auris is of concern for several reasons: 1) It is often multidrug resistant, meaning it is resis...
