Problems solved by technology

This misinterpretation can lead to erroneous operation of the assistive surgical system
This can cause minor problems, such as having to repeat commands or give them more slowly, but it can also cause larger problems, such as assisting surgical systems executing the wrong commands, which can lead to patient injury

Embodiment Construction

[0040] In the following description of example embodiments, the same reference numerals are used to designate the same or similar components.

[0041] figure 1 A surgical system 1 is shown comprising: a controller 10, a tracking system 12, and a microphone array 14 comprising a plurality of microphones 15 (eg, two microphones 15A, 15B). figure 1 The shown tracking system 12 is an optical tracking system 12 . However, any other tracking technology suitable for surgical tracking (eg, electromagnetic tracking systems) may be used.

[0042]The controller 10 may include at least one of: a computer chip, an expansion card, a stand-alone device, and circuitry allowing signal processing. In this way, the controller 10 can be implemented by computers, cloud computing resources or computer networks. Controller 10 may also be implemented by a controller operating a different entity such as tracking system 12, microphone array 14, surgical navigation system (which may include tracking ...

Abstract

The disclosure provides surgical system control based on voice commands. A controller (10) for a surgical navigation system (1) is presented. The controller (10) is configured to receive a position signal from a tracking system (12), wherein the position signal is indicative of a position of a hand-held surgical device (24) that is tracked by the surgical navigation system (1) inside an operation environment (20). The controller (10) is further configured to receive sound signals from a plurality of microphones (15) directed toward the operation environment (20), wherein the sound signals potentially contain one or more voice commands from one or more voice sources inside the operation environment (20). The controller (10) is configured to process the sound signals dependent on the position signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to surgical assistive technology. In particular, a controller, controller system, surgical system, method, and computer program product for processing sound signals from a surgical environment are presented. The audio signal potentially includes one or more voice commands from one or more voice sources within the surgical environment. Background technique [0002] During surgery, surgeons are regularly assisted by various surgical systems, such as powered surgical instruments, robotic arms, monitors, and computers. Due to various constraints, such as having to maintain sterility or while holding the surgical equipment, the ability of the surgeon to interact with such assistive systems using manually operated input devices such as buttons, keyboard or mouse is limited. [0003] An alternative method of operating the assistance system is to issue voice commands received by a microphone. In this regard, US 10,02...
