Embodiment Construction

[0052] figure 1 A system 100 for generating random numbers is shown.

[0053] The system 100 can be of macroscopic scale, ie have dimensions greater than 1 cm or a few centimeters, but it can also be realized as a system-on-chip with only microscale (ie, less than 1 cm, preferably less than 0.5 cm).

[0054] In a preferred embodiment, the system 100 is provided on an integrated chip, which may for example be included in a smartphone and has dimensions preferably less than 1 cm.

[0055] although figure 1 A specific embodiment of the system of the invention is described in , but the general concept according to the invention relates to a system and method for generating random numbers, wherein the system includes an optical component adapted to generate two optical signals and an optical component connected to the optical component two photodetectors, wherein the first photodetector is adapted to receive a first optical signal and generate a first electrical signal based on t...

Abstract

The invention provides a system for generating random numbers, the system comprising an optical component that is adapted to generate two optical signals, and two photodetectors connected to the optical component, wherein the first photodetector is adapted to receive the first optical signal and to generate a first electrical signal based on the first optical signal and the second photodetector is adapted to receive the second optical signal and to generate a second electrical signal based on the second optical signal, wherein the optical component is adapted to generate first and second optical signals that randomly result in first and second electrical signals where the first and second electrical signals are either equal or one is larger than the other, the system characterized in that the photodetectors are adapted to transmit the first and second electrical signals to a comparator, wherein the comparator is adapted to provide an output based on a comparison of the first and second electrical signals, thereby providing the random number.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a system for generating random numbers according to the preamble of claim 1 and a method for generating random numbers according to the preamble of claim 10 . Background technique [0002] Various systems for generating random numbers are known from the prior art. In principle, these systems can be divided into two different technical approaches. [0003] The first technical way uses complex algorithms and initial conditions (also known as seeds (like dates)) in order to compute pseudorandom numbers that preferably have the most even distribution over a certain interval (usually 0 to 1) . [0004] While these systems require only a computer to generate random numbers, they suffer from the problem of using a particular algorithm that results in a sequence of random numbers that is perfectly predictable even when exhibiting good statistical results. In addition to being predictable, pseudo-random number generators exhibit fini...
