Abstract

Integrated catheter placement devices and methods thereof are disclosed herein. Exemplary devices include an intravascular catheter, a needle, an access guidewire, and a blood outflow reduction device for reducing outflow of blood from the device. The intravascular catheter includes a catheter pipe fitting and a catheter bushing. A catheter extends from the body of the device. The needle includes a needle rod and a needle bushing. The needle rod extends through the catheter pipe fitting by means of a catheter lumen of the catheter pipe fitting. The access guidewire is disposed in a needle lumen of the needle. By reducing the outflow of blood from the annular space within the needle shaft, the blood outflow reduction device still allows axial movement of the entry guidewire within the needle lumen while reducing the outflow of blood from the device. An annular space is defined by the lumen surface of the needle rod and the surface of the access guidewire.

Description

[0001] priority [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 63 / 055,103, filed July 22, 2020, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present application relates to the field of medical devices, and more particularly to integrated catheter placement devices and methods for reducing blood outflow. Background technique [0004] Integrated catheter placement devices such as the PowerGlide PRO from Becton, Dickinson, and Company (“BD”) of Franklin Lakes, NJ TM Midline Catheter, AccuCath TM Intravascular Catheters and AccuCath Ace TM Intravascular catheters, etc., provide an integrated solution for rapid placement of intravascular catheters and access to peripheral blood vessels. Such catheters comply with International Organization for Standardization ("ISO") standards, such as ISO 10555-5, which specify requirements for peripheral intravascular catheters on needles. [0005] Such as Figure 1A ...
