Embodiment Construction

[0027] Figure 1-8 A fiber optic connector 20 is shown in accordance with the principles of the present disclosure. The fiber optic connector 20 includes a connector body assembly 22 that includes a front piece 24 and a rear piece 26 (see Figure 5 ). The front piece 24 defines a plug end 28 of the fiber optic connector 20 . Plug end 28 is adapted to be inserted into a fiber optic adapter. The rear piece 26 is attached to the front piece 24 (eg, by a snap fit connection). The fiber optic connector 20 is configured to be attached to the end of a fiber optic cable 30 (see Figure 9 ). The back piece 26 includes a cable anchoring area 32 to which a strengthening member (e.g., aramid yarn, fiberglass yarn, etc.) can be secured (see Figure 4 ).

[0028] The back piece 26 of the fiber optic connector 20 also includes a strain relief boot 36 (eg, an optical fiber bend radius limiting structure) installed at the interface between the fiber optic cable 30 and the back piece 26 ...

Abstract

Aspects and techniques of the present disclosure relate to fiber optic connectors having features that help eliminate the likelihood of capillary effect or epoxy wicking. Fiber optic connectors may include an epoxy tube having segments that define recesses in areas that help prevent capillary action between otherwise closely positioned components.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application was filed as a PCT International Patent Application on July 16, 2020, and claims the benefit of U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 875,366, filed July 17, 2019, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to fiber optic communication systems. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to fiber optic connectors used in fiber optic communication systems. Background technique [0004] Fiber optic communication systems are becoming more common, in part because service providers desire to provide high bandwidth communication capabilities (eg, data and voice) to customers. Fiber optic communication systems use fiber optic cable networks to transmit large amounts of data and voice signals over relatively long distances. Fiber optic connectors are an essential part of most fiber optic communication s...
