Embodiment Construction

[0020] The present disclosure will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which example embodiments of the disclosure are shown and not intended to be limiting.

[0021] figure 1 A piezoelectric diaphragm transducer window keypad system 100 is depicted that includes a microphone array 101 having a plurality of piezoelectric diaphragm transducer microphones 110 , 115 , and 120 . The microphone array 101 may be rigidly disposed on the inner surface of the window 105 at three or more locations.

[0022] figure 2 The user 205 is shown tapping the window 105 . When the user 205 taps the window 105 with a finger or other object, the vibration associated with the tap on the window can travel from the point of impact 210 on the glass medium of the window 105 because the vibration varies with respect to the distance traveled travels through the medium at a given rate. For example, in one exemplary glass medium, a vibration signal associ...

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a system and method for piezoelectric sensor microphone window keyboard input. Systems and methods for using a window as a keyboard input system that functions as an alternative to a keyless entry keyboard in a vehicle are disclosed. The system includes a window that uses a piezoelectric transducer as a keyboard that captures resonance from the window when a pressure wave (e.g., generated by a voice command or tap) impacts the glass. The transducer controller amplifies vibrations from a window user tap or verbal command and triangulates the signal to locate the location of the start point of the tap, which may be mapped to a corresponding digital or cardinal input value. The system may include a low power mode that receives an input when the vehicle is off.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to vehicle safety systems, and more particularly to vehicle keypad entry systems. Background technique [0002] Vehicle users generally appreciate the ability to enter a vehicle using a keypad. They recognize the convenience of leaving the keys in the vehicle or the ability to enable guests / children to enter the vehicle without giving them the keys. [0003] The keypad is usually provided on the door or doorpost on the exterior surface of the vehicle. Various types of button interfaces are currently in use which, when deployed on the exterior of the vehicle, may be susceptible to weather conditions. Other input mechanisms, including microphones, may also be used in automotive control systems to provide input for various applications associated with the operation of the vehicle. Conventional microphone sensors may also be susceptible to weather conditions when deployed outside the vehicle. [0004] It is with...
