Abstract
The present invention relates to filters, devices and methods for removing fats, oils and / or greases ("FOG") from water. The device comprises a separator for removing FOG from the water, wherein the separator removes FOG separated from the water under the action of gravity; and a filter, wherein the filter removes FOG remaining in the water after the water passes through the separator. The filter includes a number of layers having different compositions suitable for removing FOG from water, including layers comprising particulate activated carbon (GAC) bonded together and wrapped in polyester.
Description
technical field [0001] The present invention relates to filters, devices and methods for removing fat, oil and / or grease ("FOG") from water. Background technique [0002] Commercial and industrial kitchens and catering establishments, such as restaurants, fast food restaurants, employee canteens, and food processing establishments, often generate large volumes of wastewater contaminated with fats, oils, and / or greases ("FOG"). Kitchens in residential properties such as houses and apartments may also generate large amounts of FOG-contaminated wastewater. [0003] Most FOG results from cooking or otherwise breaking down food, especially vegetable and / or animal products. These FOGs can eventually contaminate water when cleaning FOG-contaminated cooking equipment, food preparation equipment, food preparation surfaces, tableware, and certain fabrics (eg, tea towels, tablecloths, napkins). [0004] Catering FOG includes, for example, chicken fat, beef fat, duck fat, lamb fat, po...
