Problems solved by technology

The first problem comes from not including sync tokens in all transfer packets of the compressed data
Another problem arises from the non-uniform generation or delivery rate of transport packets, which are not suitable for direct recording

Embodiment Construction

[0019] Referring to FIG. 1, it shows a cascaded audio-video-data AVD bus interface interconnected by an AVD bus. Each interface is bidirectional so that it can be adapted to provide signals to or receive signals from equipment components. However, it cannot do both things at the same time, it will only do this or the other during a conversation. Each interface includes an output buffer OB, which is used to drive a component device with the signal provided by the bus. Each interface includes an input buffer output, which is used to drive the bus with signals provided by the device components. Both the input and output buffers are selectively connected to the bus via a transfer switch, and the transfer switch is controlled by the main controller. Therefore, the direction of adding a signal to the bus or receiving a signal from the bus can be determined with a high degree of flexibility.

[0020] Each interface may include a half-duplex transceiver, both ends connected to the AVD bus...

Abstract

A system for generating a signal (SP) for coupling digital audio, video and data signals in compressed form via a bus (500). A processing means (98) formats the digital audio, video and data signals into superpackets (SP) for transmission via the bus (500). Each superpacket (SP) comprises a timestamp (TS), and a transport packet (TP), representative of the digital audio, video and data signals. The superpackets (SP) have a fixed duration and occur at variable intervals. Devices (50) receive the superpacket (SP) signal and may utilize the timestamps (TS) for clock synchronization. A recording and replay device (400) processes the variable superpacket signal occurrence for recording. Reproduced timestamps (401) are utilized to control restoration of the superpacket (SP) signal to have substantially the duration and occurrence as when formatted for bus (500) transmission. A simplified bus (501) couples superpackets (SP) between devices (100, 400). An indicia (Vs) is added to a superpacket (SP) signal to provide automatic control of device bus interfaces (102). The automated interface control is also responsive to device control status.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a bus interface system / equipment for connecting audio, video and data processing systems, in particular to connecting digital signals for digital recording and reproduction. Background of the invention [0002] In the field of audio / video electronics, it is known that various consumer electronic processing devices are interconnected on a bus structure, so that signals available on one device can be used by another device connected to the bus. For example, the audio / video signal obtained on the television receiver can be added to the recorder and stored, or the audio from the television receiver can be added to a separate stereo system for playback and so on. Examples of this type of audio / video interconnection system can be found in U.S. Patents 4,575,759, 4,581,664, 4,647,973, and 4,581,645. [0003] The signals distributed in these modular bus systems are relatively self-contained. In other words, they include all th...
