Embodiment Construction

[0017] like figure 1 Schematically, a television receiver includes: a cathode ray tube 3; a first circuit 1, which supplies a high voltage HV to the cathode of a CRT 3; and a second circuit 2, which provides a brightness signal Y for controlling an electron beam of the CRT 3. An amplifier 4 may be provided between the second circuit 2 and the CRT 3 to input a signal with sufficient power to the CRT.

[0018] On a color television receiver (commonly called CTV), three circuits similar to the second circuit 2 are provided for the red, green and blue parts of the image respectively. The following description will refer to only one circuit 2, but it should be understood that the invention can be applied to any one of the three circuits 2, and possibly to several simultaneously.

[0019] A second circuit 2 processes the total signal Y' from a video source such as a tuner or a VCR into a luminance signal Y. In particular, the second circuit 2 provides brightness set as follows.

Abstract

A display apparatus, for instance a television receiver, comprises a cathode ray tube (3), a first circuit (1) for providing a high voltage (HV) to the cathode and a second circuit (2) receiving a gross signal (Y') and providing on at least an output at least a luminance signal (Y) controlling an electron stream of the cathode ray tube (3). To reduce stray emission, absence of gross signal (Y') is simulated when the apparatus is switched from on to off.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a display device comprising a cathode ray tube (CRT). Background technique [0002] In such a device, spurious emissions may occur due to high voltage trapped in the CRT when the device is turned off (or in standby). This problem is usually solved by reducing the voltage in the CRT when the device is turned off. Various solutions are described in published patent application EP 0 810 785 . [0003] According to another solution disclosed in patent application JP 62-92 584, the black level adjustment voltage of the luminance signal sent to the CRT rises when the conventional B+ voltage falls. Contents of the invention [0004] The object of the invention is to improve the reduction of stray emissions by discharging the cathode, according to a new solution that can be employed in addition to the above-mentioned solutions. [0005] According to this new solution, the display device comprises: - a cathode ray tube (3);...
