[0025] According to the transmission method of the present invention, it is proposed to reduce the value of the transmission unit size of the RLC sublayer when transmission conditions become bad. According to a first embodiment of the invention, the size value of the transmission unit is selected by the MAC sublayer from a set of possible size values. According to a second embodiment, the change of the transmission unit size value usually involves the RRC layer.

[0026] In general, the size value of an RLC PDU transmission unit is not optional. This is because, for a given bit error rate (BER), transmission time interval (TTI) and bit rate, it can be seen that there is an optimal size value for the RLC PDU. Residual errors (ie, errors not corrected by the error-correcting decoding of the physical layer) are evenly distributed over the length of the TTI, and the probability that an RLC PDU is good is an exponentially decreasing function of its size L. The RLC PDU contains L-...

Abstract

The data transmission uses three layers of protocol: a first layer - a Radio Resource Control layer (RRC) is responsible for the management of the physical resource and for guaranteeing the quality of service; a second sub-layer - a Radio Link Control layer (RLC) is responsible for the provision of a transmission support conforming to the required quality of the service; and a third sub-layer - a Medium Access Control layer (MAC) is responsible for access to the physical resource. The method for transmission of data on a physical resource, such as a mobile radio link, uses three layers of protocol. A first layer - a Radio Resource Control layer (RRC) is responsible for the management of the physical resource and for guaranteeing the quality of service. A second sub-layer - a Radio Link Control layer (RLC) is responsible for the provision of a transmission support conforming to the required quality of the service. A third sub-layer - a Medium Access Control layer (MAC) is responsible for access to the physical resource, whilst the physical layer (PHY) provides the physical processing of data. Access to the physical resource is divided into transmission time intervals (TTI), the sub-layer (RLC) being able to segment the data into transmission units. The second sub-layer (MAC) is able to transmit at least one transmission unit per transmission time interval.

Description

technical field [0001] Generally, the present invention relates to a method of communicating data over physical resources. More specifically, the present invention relates to a transmission method that combats degradation of service quality in a mobile telecommunication system. Background technique [0002] Such systems consist of one or more receivers connected by radio links to one or more transmitters. The transmission capacity of such systems is limited due to noise levels, interference between signals of different users, available bandwidth, etc. Therefore, sharing must be made between different users according to the resource allocation process that enables each user to obtain as much as possible the service he requests. [0003] For this purpose, mobile telecommunication systems employ such as figure 1 The three protocol layers shown in . [0004] The upper layer or RRC (Radio Resource Control) layer is responsible for managing the overall physical resources and g...
