Embodiment Construction

[0026] Figure 1a A disc-shaped record carrier 11 with one track 9 and one central hole 10 is shown. The tracks 9 are arranged according to a rotating spiral pattern forming substantially parallel tracks on the information layer. The record carrier may be an optical disc having an information layer of recordable type. Examples of recordable discs are CD-R and CD-RW, and DVD+RW. The track 9 on the recordable type record carrier is represented by a pre-embossed track structure provided during manufacture of the blank record carrier, eg a pre-groove. The recorded information on the information layer is represented by optically detectable marks recorded along the track. The marking consists of a variation of the first physical parameter and thus has an optical characteristic different from its surroundings. The markings can be detected based on changes in the reflected light beam, eg changes in reflection.

Abstract

A record carrier for recording information by writing marks in a track has a recording layer with a pregroove (51). The pregroove has a wobble with a wobble modulation (52) representing control information. The pregroove further has a pregroove modulation formed by pregroove pit regions (54) having a predetermined width and depth alternating with pregroove land regions (53) having a reduced depth and / or width, in particular zero depth. Most of the pregroove land areas (53) are positioned at the zero crossing points of the wobble and most of the pregroove pit areas are positioned at the peaks of the wobble so that the strength of the wobble signal is optimized. A scanning means has wobble detection means for retrieving control information from the wobble modulation and pregroove demodulation means for retrieving recording control information from the pregroove modulation.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a record carrier of the writable type for recording information by writing marks on the track. [0002] The invention further relates to a device for scanning said record carrier and a method for providing information via said record carrier. Background technique [0003] An optical record carrier is already known from WO 00 / 43996. The record carrier comprises a guide groove, usually called a pregroove, for indicating the position of a track in which information is represented in a predetermined way by optically recording readable marks. The pregroove is meandering (further denoted wobble) due to the periodic offset of the track in a direction transverse to the longitudinal scan direction. The wobble includes wobble modulation, for example, achieved by inverting a wobble cycle in phase according to additional information such as address or recording control information. The scanning device has a head for generating a radiati...
