Problems solved by technology

However, placing an ultrasonic sensor system or an optical sensor system in place on the windshield often results in partially blocking the driver's view through the windshield, or results in such a sensor system not being positioned to detect the presence of moisture on the windshield. The best position for gas
In addition, the color or shade of the windshield on the path of light traveling from the light emitter to the light receiver can affect the sensitivity of the optical sensor used to detect moisture

Embodiment Construction

[0042] refer to figure 1 A sheet or sheet of optically transparent material, such as a sheet of glass or a vehicle windshield 2 , includes an antenna 4 arranged thereon. The first embodiment of the antenna 4 comprises one or more electrical conductors 6 connected to a conductive foil 8 for connecting electronic circuitry to the electrical conductors 6 . exist figure 1 In the illustrated embodiment, the foil 8 is shown extending beyond the periphery of the windshield 2 . However, this is not to be seen as a limitation of the invention, since the foil 8 may be arranged within the periphery of the windshield 2 .

[0043] refer to figure 2 , and continue to refer to figure 1 , the windshield 2 is formed by an outer glass layer 10 and an inner glass layer 12, and the outer layer 10 and the inner layer 12 are bonded together by a plastic interlayer 14, such as polyvinyl butyral, so that the windshield forms an integral structure . However, the outer layer 10 and inner layer 1...

Abstract

The moisture detection system includes electrical conductors disposed on the surface of the substrate. The resonant frequency of the electrical conductor changes depending on the amount of moisture present close to the electrical conductor. The oscillator outputs an oscillation signal with a predetermined amplitude and a predetermined frequency. A resonant circuit is connected to the electrical conductor and responds to the oscillating signal and the resonant frequency of the electrical conductor to output a resonant signal having an amplitude related to the resonant frequency of the electrical conductor. The filter circuit rectifies and filters the resonant signal and sends it to an analog-to-digital converter, which outputs a digital signal related to the rectified and filtered resonant signal. The controller responds to the digital signal to cause a system coupled to the substrate to operate in accordance with the digital signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to moisture detection, and more particularly, the present invention relates to moisture detection on vehicle windshields. Background technique [0002] To date, moisture on vehicle windshields has been detected in four basic ways. Namely, capacitive sensor systems, resistive sensor systems, ultrasonic sensor systems and optical sensor systems. [0003] Capacitive sensor systems include capacitors formed on the windshield. In response to moisture on the windshield, the capacitance of the capacitor changes. In order to detect the changing capacitance and control the operation of the windshield wiper according to the changing capacitance, a readout circuit is connected. Examples of capacitive moisture sensors include: 5,668,478 to Buschur; 5,682,788 to Netzer; 5,801,307 to Netzer; and US Patent 6,094,981 to Hochstein. [0004] The resistance measurement system includes two conductive elements, such as conventional whip an...
