Embodiment Construction

[0026] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

[0027] Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of an airbag folding case and an abutment body used in the airbag block forming method in the embodiment; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view showing the inside of the case; Fig. 3(a) to Fig. 3(c) are airbag Illustration of the folding sequence. In addition, in FIGS. 3( a ) to ( c ), the case is shown in a section along line III-III in FIG. 2 .

[0028] The casing 10 of the present embodiment is a folding casing of the curtain airbag 1 whose upper side is attached to the upper portion of the side surface of the vehicle compartment and deployed downward.

[0029] The curtain airbag 1 is formed by overlapping two base fabrics 2a and 2b ( FIG. 3 ), and sewing them together with a seam 3 ( FIG. 2 ) formed of threads or the like. In addition, the base fabrics 2a and 2b may be configured separately or integrally (for example, ...

Abstract

The present invention provides a method of not folding the airbag regularly, but forming the airbag into a prescribed block shape only by compression. A curtain airbag (1) is housed in a casing (10) with its upper side arranged on the inner bottom surface (17) side and its lower side arranged on the opening (16) side. Air is fed into the curtain airbag (1) to inflate the curtain airbag (1). The curtain airbag (1) is compressed from the side of the opening (16) to the inner bottom surface (17) through the abutment body (30). At this time, the air in the curtain airbag (1) is discharged through the inflator opening (6). After the curtain airbag (1) is compressed into a predetermined small block shape, the airbag block (1') is taken out of the casing (10) while sliding along the inner bottom surface (17). After the airbag block (1') is taken out from the housing (10), the shape of the airbag block (1') is maintained by the shape-retaining member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of forming small blocks of airbags for passenger protection of automobiles and the like, and particularly relates to an alternative method of folding the airbags. Furthermore, the present invention relates to an airbag block formed by the method and an airbag device having the airbag block. Background technique [0002] Automobiles are equipped with various airbag devices such as an airbag device for a driver's seat, an airbag device for an auxiliary driver's seat, a side airbag device, and a curtain airbag device for head protection. [0003] Conventionally, the airbag of this airbag device is regularly folded manually or mechanically. For example, Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 2003-260998 discloses an apparatus for deploying a curtain airbag and sequentially folding it to form an elongated folded body. [0004] Patent Document 1: JP-A-2003-260998 Gazette [0005] When the airbag is regularly f...
