A computer at one site of a computer network is used by a remote administrator to request performance of management action(s) regarding a specified computer (the Amanaged computer@) and / or other device located at another site of the network. The request is transmitted to a remote computer management server that is typically located at still another site of the computer network that is different from the other two network sites. The remote computer management server communicates with the managed computer to effect the requested management action(s) and, as appropriate, reports the result(s) to the computer being used by the remote administrator.
