A crimping tool facilitates the crimping of a radially compressible, elastic human implantable
catheter pump and the transfer of the crimped pump to a tubular transfer sheath by pulling the cardiac pump through an elongated tube that defines a tapered longitudinal bore. The bore has an
internal dimension that gradually narrows along its length. A wide end of the bore is sufficient to accommodate an uncrimped cardiac pump. A narrow end of the bore has a dimension similar to the
internal dimension of the transfer sheath. A connector is located at the proximal end of the tube. The proximal end of the bore, passing through the connector, is configured to receive the
distal portion of the transfer sheath coaxially with the tube bore. Optionally, a latch is configured to releasably secure the
distal portion of the transfer sheath within the connector.
