Touch screen

A touch screen 1111 having an active surface area 1112 which extends in three physical dimensions (x-, y- and z-dimensions) is provided. In the figure the active surface area has an U-shaped form. When a user slides his finger over the active surface area the tactile feedback gives him information about the position of the finger. The touch screen is activated when the active surface area senses a certain pressure from the finger. The use of the touch screen is facilitated especially when the user is on the move or when the touch screen is out of sight. Such use is common when operating hand-held terminals.

Control device having a night light

A battery-powered remote control for radiating wireless signals to control a controlled device has a night light that glows whereby it is visible in a darkened room and the battery lasts at least about three years. It also includes a wireless transmitter, a controller, a battery and a control element. The control element generates a signal when activated to cause the controller to operate the wireless transmitter to transmit a wireless signal to control the controlled device. The night light comprises a light emitting diode and a light pipe having a textured front surface. A power supply circuit for the LED provides an LED current from the battery. The LED has a normal operating current range and the LED current is several orders of magnitude below the normal operating current range.

Two-level pressure sensitive keyboard

A two-level pressure sensitive keyboard includes at least one key and a membrane switch circuit module. The membrane switch circuit module includes a first contact, a second contact, a first spacing layer for separating the first contact from the second contact, a third contact, a fourth contact, and a second spacing layer for separating the third contact from the fourth contact. The thickness of the second spacing layer is greater than that of the first spacing layer. When the key is depressed in response to the first pressure, the first contact and the second contact are electrically connected with each other to generate a first sensing signal. When the key is depressed in response to the second pressure, the first contact and the second contact are electrically connected with each other and the third contact and fourth contact are electrically connected with each other to generate a second sensing signal.

Transmissive optical elements including transparent plastic shell having a phosphor dispersed therein, and methods of fabricating same

A transmissive optical element is fabricated by filling a mold with molten liquid that includes a transparent plastic and a phosphor additive, and allowing the molten liquid to solidify to produce the transmissive optical element having phosphor dispersed therein. Accordingly, a separate phosphor coating or phosphor-containing encapsulant need not be used. Transmissive optical elements include a shell made of transparent plastic with a phosphor dispersed therein. The phosphor may be uniformly and / or nonuniformly dispersed in the shell.

Transmissive key sheet, input keys using transmissive key sheet and electronic equipment with input keys

A transmissive key sheet using translucent resin, which is capable of effective illumination while ensuring the thinness of the entire key sheet as well as suppressing a decrease in light transmission, input keys using the transmissive key sheet, and electronic equipment with the input keys. A transmissive key sheet of input keys comprises a first key sheet unit and a second key sheet unit, the opposite side of the first key sheet unit from key tops and the opposite side of the second key sheet unit from pressure applicators being bonded together with a translucent adhesive. The key tops made of translucent resin are molded integral with a translucent resin film having letters on its under surface to provide the first key sheet unit. The pressure applicators made of translucent resin are molded integral with a translucent resin film to provide the second key sheet unit. The light from a light source on a substrate illuminates keys so that the letters printed on the under surface of the translucent resin film become visible form outside. The pressing of each key top presses a corresponding key switch through the pressure applicator, and the key switch is concavely curved to make a contact with an electrode on the substrate. Thus, key input is provided.

Hinge key switch

An apparatus for a hinged key switch is presented which operates around a hinged pivot point located external to the four points of the key cap, and which comprises a rubber spring providing a vertical bias and an arm with an extension which acts as a stopper when it abuts a raised portion of the mounting plate. The rubber spring is integrally formed from a rubber sheet which is supported on one side by the mounting plate and on the other by the back plate. The stopper extends vertically downward from the key cap and acts to limit the movement of the key in the vertical direction. A horizontal extension from a lower portion of the key cap further extends downward and through a slot in the mounting plate and has a hook which abuts an underside of the mounting plate, such extension from the key cap acting as the pivot point around which the key rotates.

Tactile Conforming Apparatus and Method for a Device

A device (100, 2604) includes a controllable skin texture surface (2602), a sensor (2700), and control logic (200). The sensor senses a plurality of points of interest (2804, 2806) of a user surface (2800). The control logic controls a plurality of portions (2900) of the controllable skin texture surface to protrude at locations with respect to the plurality of points of interest in response to the sensor sensing the plurality of points of interest. In one example, the control logic periodically adjusts the plurality of portions protruding from the controllable skin texture surface in response to movement between the user surface and the controllable skin texture surface.
