[0036] Referring to FIG. 8 , a ceramic metal halide discharge lamp 1 includes a glass envelope 10 , a glass base 11 with a pair of frame wires 12 , 13 buried therein, a metal base 14 and a center joint 16 insulated from the base 14 . The base leads 12 and 13 are respectively connected to the base 14 and the center joint 16, and not only support the arc tube 20, but also supply power to the electrodes 30 and 40 through the frame wire 17 and the base lead part 13. A suction member 18 is fixed on the frame wire member 17 . Niobium connectors 19 provide electrical connections for the arc tube electrodes 30,40. Furthermore, the wire member 17 is provided with an end portion 9 which contacts a recess 8 formed in the upper axial end of the glass envelope 10 .
