Embodiment Construction

[0049] Referring to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals represent corresponding parts throughout the several views, and initially to FIG. 1 , an embodiment of a rodent extermination system 100 is shown.

[0050] System 100 generally includes a frame 105 having an upper portion 110 and a lower portion 115 . The upper portion 110 generally includes a bait rig 120 . In typical embodiments, the bait device is a heat pipe with scented baits, as discussed further below. The heat pipe interacts with the temperature sensitive bait to emit varying degrees of fragrance which can attract rodents to this upper section. The upper portion 110 further includes a euthanization chamber 125 with a rodent detector array 130, both of which will be described in more detail in the description below.

[0051] The lower section 115 typically includes a freezer 135, ideally in the sub-zero range, to allow for long-term storage of euthanized rodents. The freezer 135 can be cooled by variou...

Abstract

A rodent elimination system that continuously attracts, euthanizes, and stores numerous rodents for extended periods of time. The system typically includes a housing having an upper section and a lower section. The upper section typically includes a heated baiting device that interacts with the temperature sensitive bait to emit varying degrees of scent to attract a rodent. The upper section includes a euthanizing chamber having a rodent detector array. The lower section typically includes a freezer unit having a disposable bag for long term storage of euthanized rodents. A freezer door typically separates the upper and lower sections to allow both physical and thermal isolation.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 565,741, filed April 27, 2004, and entitled "Rodent Elimination System." technical field [0002] The present invention relates generally to the field of pest control, and more particularly to systems for rodent extermination, interim storage and disposal. Background technique [0003] Rats, mice, and other rodents cause many problems in contemporary society, from minor nuisances to major catastrophic events. Researchers have studied whether the Great Plague could happen again. There are still thousands of cases of the Black Death reported worldwide. The Great Plague is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis carried by fleas that live on rodents. Studies have shown that up to 30 percent of wild rodents carry plague. Most of these rodents live in suburban areas rather than urban areas. Larger species such as Norway rats that have invaded cities often drive smaller native species out of ci...
